Where do you go when you realize you need the big picture?

Bird Construction is a major provider of construction services across Canada. While their existing website had done the job presenting them as an ace builder of commercial buildings, it left unaddressed their prowess in delivering complex, technically challenging projects in sectors from industrial and utilities to mining and transportation. To win, Bird knew they were going to need a bigger picture and enlisted Flywheel’s help. We responded by creating a new, award-winning website.

Bird chose us, we were told, because we had the right approach and had people who were knowledgeable and friendly. We gave them the impression, they said afterwards, that they were our only client. Our personal interactions were important during the exploration period when we worked to understand the complexity of Bird’s business and the communications challenge facing them.

The project required more than rethinking the website.
The building side and the industrial side of the business had to be brought together in way that gave them due weight. The goal was to present them as part of a coherent offering and make them easily accessible to clients looking for a good project example. The company’s existing brand guidelines needed a boost to lead to the bigger picture. We needed to find our own way to gain alignment around a new website that would help evolve the brand while staying true to a century of experience.

Build.

Bird’s new site simplifies the user experience.
It employs a clear grid structure to present the full range of Bird’s capabilities and provide users with quick access to projects most relevant to them with minimal clicks. Individual pages juxtapose images of building and industrial projects artfully selected and cropped to underscore their commonality: the quality of work Bird delivered to produce them. The unity in diversity theme extends to the use of solid and outline typography and the deployment of type and imagery to create an architectural feel.

This was the unprompted comment from the representative of a large company Bird acquired soon after the new site went live. Bird’s website, in fact, has been receiving stellar reviews all around. It was recently awarded the Progress Sitefinity Website of the Year Award in the Real Estate and Construction category.
